Having acted in over 200 murder cases, Bill Clegg QC brings his vast experience as a leading murder barrister and QC to the defence of those accused of murder. He acts in cases throughout the country and has frequently defended those who are facing a retrial following a successful appeal.

As a leading murder barrister, Bill has successfully acted for defendants in many high profile cases, including that of Colin Stagg who was accused of the Wimbledon Common murder of Rachel Nickel who was found not guilty following legal submissions made by Bill. Colin Stagg’s innocence was later proved beyond doubt when another man pleaded guilty to the murder following the discovery of fresh DNA evidence.

Bill also defended Barry George who was found not guilty at his retrial when defended by Bill of the murder of the Television presenter Jill Dando.

Bill has also acted in cases of alleged terrorism where those accused have been alleged to be members of the Tamil Tigers, UDA  or other terrorist organisations. And he has also acted for those in the armed forces accused of murder in the course of their service including
Private Lee Clegg in Northern Ireland who was found not guilty at his retrial for murder when defended by Bill.

Among his other notable cases as a leading murder barrister, Bill  also acted for the David Duckenfield , the police officer in charge of the Hillsborough Stadium when the Liverpool supporters were killed and who was charged with their unlawful killing. The trial was stopped after the first jury failed to agree upon a verdict.

Bill has also acted for Doctors accused of manslaughter when patients have died during an operation. Doctor “P” was accused of administering a fatal dose of pain killer to a compromised young man during a minor surgical procedure. Following extensive expert evidence the Doctor was found not guilty.
